To spearhead a team of champions you need a coach to step up to the task. Coach Eric is a champion at life firefighting and coaching for over twenty years. He molds champions from Dominick Cruz, Phil Davis, Darrion Caldwell, and several others throughout the years competing in the UFC, Bellator, Combate Americas, and PFL. In 2019 he saw Emiliano Sordi achieve greatness as PFL’s new Heavyweight Champion winning one million dollars at Madison Square Garden. On May 9th he stands behind long time friend and fighter Dominick Cruz for his greatest obstacle since injuring his shoulder.
At Alliance MMA in Chula Vista California he arrives as soon as the fighters begin warming up. His coaching staff is hand selected in each discipline to train the pro team and classes in the evening. As a true-life fighter himself Coach Eric has been on the frontlines battling COVID-19 as a part of the Fire Department. Taking calls as a first responder while generating game plans and curriculums for his fighters to follow during quarantine.
There is a reason why his fighters are the most game fighters in the UFC, having representation from the gym on multiple fight cards throughout the year. On the roster looking to climb the ranks for her chance at the title is Angela Overkill Hill next in line to fight for a championship. It is steadfast dedication to his craft as a coach and mentor that he builds a community of fighters that know what its like to be in the trenches. He himself battled San Diego’s wildfires, coronavirus, and thousands of other life altering calls in his other role and leads men into the fray daily.
So, it is no wonder that he can lead men and women into the Octagon to fight for their lives. With UFC 249 around the corner he is in the training sessions with Dominick Cruz and Jeremy Stephens to make sure they go in prepared for war, prepared to lay it on the line for fight fans. We salute our Captain and Coach Eric Del Fierro as he serves as our leader, and on the frontlines during the pandemic.
